Join us November 4 for International Scrap Sorting Day

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 4, 2023 – it’s International Scrap Sorting Day! That’s right – we’ve developed a day dedicated to organizing your fabric scraps.

Why does sorting scraps deserve its own day?

Fabric scraps often become a core part of the quilting experience – many quilt and sewing projects end with scraps. Making time to thoroughly sort, trim, and organize them is often put aside in favor of starting new projects. By organizing your scraps, you can more easily find ways to incorporate them into future projects. You never know what fabric gems are nestled in your scrap pile right now!

Taking the time to organize your scraps is a great way to see what you have, be inspired to make something new, and encouraged to use what you have before procuring more. 

Should I prepare anything for International Scrap Sorting Day?

You can work ahead by finding all the scraps in your sewing space – including the ones tucked under other projects, stuffed in baskets, and hidden deep in crevices that haven’t seen the light of day for a while. If you are finishing up QuiltCon submissions or working on other projects, keep the scraps in an accessible place and you’ll be ready for International Scrap Sorting Day! You are also welcome to show up on International Scrap Sorting Day ready to begin without advance preparation.

What can you do with all of those freshly sorted scraps?

Members can use those freshly sorted and organized scraps, as well as leftover blocks and partial quilt tops to join the MQG Use It: Quilt Back Challenge. Details about this challenge will be available in early November.
