A letter from Jennifer Werth

Hi! My name is Jennifer Werth – but you are welcome to call me Jenn. I’m 39 years old and
live in Findlay, OH. I was born and raised in Mid-Michigan and now reside in NW Ohio with
my husband, 3-year-old son, and our cat. I work full-time in the automotive industry as a
project manager after receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State in
2007.

Since graduating and joining the workforce I’ve lived in multiple states in the US but I love
living in Ohio. Attending sporting events is one of our favorite family activities – so our location is perfect for seeing the Spartans, Toledo Rockets, Toledo Mud Hens, Toledo Walleye, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and the Columbus Crew in person. Did I mention that I’m a sports fan? We are blessed to live in a small town with “big town aspirations” that is full of friendly people, parks, and activities for adults and families.

I started quilting in 2010 when I couldn’t find a teal blanket for my queen-size bed. Rookie
mistake. Who takes on a queen-size quilt for their first quilt?! In the end, it turned out great and currently resides on a bed in our house. My mom taught me how to sew and I have always enjoyed creating my own clothes. But it wasn’t until 2010 that I jumped into making quilts. Since then I haven’t looked back and quilt as much as I can. In fact, my son has not just 1 but 3 quilts.

When I’m not quilting, cheering “Go Green!”, or chasing after a toddler you will likely find me
traveling, crafting, and working on DIY projects on our house. I find these projects to be
completely satisfying and love making our house a home. But please don’t ask me to help you to remove wallpaper or paint doors. These are some of my least favorite activities.

I don’t do well sitting still so there is always a handwork project nearby me. If I’m riding in a
car or watching tv you will find me big stitch binding a quilt, embroidering, or working on a
cross stitch pattern.

A letter from Karen Womack

To the Modern Quilt Guild Membership:
Hello, I am Karen Womack in Pittsburgh PA, and I am running for Region 3 representative.
I have been a member of the MQG community for 10+ years. Lifelong sewist who became a quilter who became a modern quilter.

My work status is semi-retired with a Masters’s degree and background in human resources, workers’ compensation, and employee relations. A few years ago I answered a survey sent to all MQG members regarding team building, and as a result taped two segments for Fresh Quilting, the MQG’s television series.

My vision for the MQG is that it is a welcoming organization for every person of every skill level. I like the option that folks can join as individual members, which demonstrates the MQG’s commitment to outreach.

I was President of the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild during the pandemic. It was unsettling at times because we did not know when we would meet, or how. We were fortunate in that our Vice President is a professional trainer and had the equipment and know-how to set up virtual meetings. Our team survived, thrived, and even picked up new members.

I am running for Region 3 representative because I believe I can help guide the MQG in this post-pandemic era. If you believe that I can, I would appreciate your vote.
