Dallas MQG Welcome to the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild. The members of the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild (DMQG) seek to promote the art of modern quilting in the Dallas area. There are opportunities for everyone to participate, either through educational demonstrations and workshops, member swaps, design and creation challenges, monthly show-and-tell, or helping our local community through charitable outreach. Membership in DMQG is open to quilters of all skill levels. You will feel welcome in a positive and nurturing atmosphere, whether you are a newbie beginner or a long-time expert. DMQG members communicate primarily through Meetup. You can see details about events on the Guild calendar, participate in discussion forums, view photos from meetings and retreats (awesome eye candy!), and much more. You may ask to join the DMQG Meetup group before officially joining the Guild. It’s a great way to see what we are about. The separate DMQG monthly newsletter contains the most up-to-date information about current events and activities. DUES Annual dues of $50 cover events such as nationally-recognized speakers, workshop supplies, and website costs. Dues are payable each January. Members also receive first priority to attend events such as monthly Saturday Sew days, retreats, and workshops. You are invited to attend two DMQG meetings before becoming a dues-paying member. MONTHLY MEETINGS: Each meeting has its own focus, including special speakers and presentations, and activities such as swaps, demonstrations, or challenges. Of course, there is always show-and-tell, where you get to see all the marvelous creations made by Guild members. We do not meet in November and our December meeting is held earlier in the month to avoid holiday conflicts. You can find out program information and upcoming meeting dates on Meetup, Facebook, and the DMQG blog. SPECIAL SEW DAYS: What could be more fun than quilting with friends? We have cutting and ironing stations as well as workspaces ready for you on Saturday Sew days. Just bring your project, machine, and supplies. Or join other quilters to work on any handwork projects at Handwork Monday. Sew dates and locations are posted on Meetup. CHARITABLE PROJECTS: The Dallas Modern Quilt Guild supports many local charities with the gift of member-made quilts. You can contribute by donating finished lap-size quilts and quilt tops, as well as batting, fabric, backings, and quilting services. RETREATS: Retreats are a little piece of quilty heaven. They are the perfect time to build camaraderie, learn from each other, and strengthen friendships. DMQG members can attend two kinds of retreats: 3- to 4-day “sleepover” retreats at a north Texas retreat center (quilt camp!) or 2-day in-town retreats (you go home and sleep in your own bed at night). Retreats are a perfect time to finish those UFOs (unfinished objects), special projects, and community service lap quilts. Spaces are limited and fill up quickly. DMQG members receive priority reservations. Quilting + friendship = too much fun! Guild Meeting Locations: DMQG meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, 10066 Marsh Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
